Snow, glaciers & runoff

How cryospheric processes regulate seasonal water availability and high flows in mountain catchments.
PhD Researcher · Tsinghua University
I study how climate variability, snow and glacier processes, drought, and hydrological change reshape water availability across high-mountain river basins.
About
I am a PhD researcher in the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University, working at the intersection of hydrology, climate science, Earth observation and data-driven modelling.
My research focuses on the Upper Indus River system, where snow, glaciers, monsoon rainfall and westerly disturbances interact to create complex streamflow and drought responses.
Research
From physical processes to future climate risk, my work combines multiple data sources and modelling approaches.

How cryospheric processes regulate seasonal water availability and high flows in mountain catchments.

How meteorological drought becomes hydrological drought, and how storage and cryosphere processes modify that pathway.

How climate warming reorganizes precipitation, seasonality, streamflow and hydrological extremes.

Using satellite observations to quantify snow persistence, groundwater storage, land use and environmental change.

Evaluating process-based and conceptual models against strong benchmarks across contrasting hydroclimatic regimes.

Using machine learning as a diagnostic and predictive tool while retaining hydrological interpretation.
